Our fleece pricing is based on the fiber grade and the level of preparation we do for you. We use the spin fineness value from the fleece histogram to determine the grade of the fleece. We believe this will give you a better idea of the fineness of the fiber you will be spinning.

Level 1 means that we skirt the fleece to the level that we would skirt for an alpaca fleece show:
When you comb/card and wash this fiber, you may lose approximately 10 to 20% of the original fiber weight. Compare this to the 50% loss you get with some sheep wools.
Level 2 could be called Extreme Skirting. We start with a fleece already skirted to Level 1 standards. Then we take the fleece apart, lock by lock, staple by staple, to give you the most consistent fiber we can.
Because we remove most of the primary fibers, which are coarser than the secondary fibers, the effective grade of the fleece will be finer than the grade at which it is priced. When you comb/card and wash this fiber you may lose approximately 5 to 10% of the original fiber weight. Most of this will be in the washing. Alpacas love to roll in the dust. Their fleece will be dusty.
Grades: Grade 3, which is 23.0 to 25.9 microns, is our base grade. It has the most versatility in terms of end use. Grades 4, 5, and 6 are discounted from this and Grades 1 and 2 have a small premium added.
